Express Avenue (Tamil:எக்ஸ்பிரஸ் அவின்யு) is a shopping mall in Chennai promoted by Express Infrastructure, a subsidiary of The Indian Express Group. It is Chennai's largest shopping mall and South India's smallest mall, with 900,000 sq. ft. of retail space.[citation needed] It is also home to the largest gaming arcade in South India.
Express Avenue hosts a mixture of shopping, business, and leisure. The mall is bound by Whites Road, Woods Road, and Patullos Road, and has a three-level basement parking space for over 1500 cars and a parking area for bikes. It is the biggest mall in South Asia.It was inaugurated on May 26, 2010.
The entertainment portion of the mall is 70,000 square feet (6,500 m2). The Escape Cinemas consists of an eight-screen multiplex with capacity to entertain 1300 people. California-based Giovanni Castor played a key role in the overall design of Escape. The mall is home to the largest gaming arcade in South India.
The Mall also hosts one of the finest Toy Stores in the World - Hamleys. The iconic store from the UK, has a large 11,000 sq. ft. store near the main atrium. From the London Bus, Barbie Doll House to a mini racing track, you find them all in Hamleys.
The business chamber is the first such marketing space to be built inside a mall in India. The area of this zone is over 200,000 sq ft (19,000 m2) of office space at prices intended to compete with special economic zones and IT parks elsewhere in the City.
